Terms of Service

1. What Transporter is

Transporter is an online matching marketplace for freight and capacity in British Columbia. We help senders find transporters (and transporters find loads). We are a matching service — not a carrier, broker of record, freight forwarder, or insurer.

2. Contracts between parties

When a sender awards a bid, the transport arrangement is between the sender and the transporter. Those parties contract directly with each other. Transporter is not a party to that contract and does not take possession of freight.

3. Payment and platform fee

Where platform payments are enabled, the sender pays the awarded amount when they award a load. We hold those funds and pay the transporter after the sender confirms delivery. Payment processing is handled by Stripe; card details never reach our systems.

This is a delayed payout, not escrow. We are not a licensed escrow agent, trustee, or deposit-taking institution, and held funds are not held in trust for you in the legal sense.

Our fee is 8.88% of the awarded amount, deducted from the amount paid to the transporter and rounded down to the nearest dollar in the transporter's favour. A $500 award pays the transporter $456. The fee is shown before a transporter connects a payout account and before a sender completes payment. We will give notice before changing it; a changed fee applies only to loads awarded after the change.

Where platform payments are not enabled for a load, payment is settled directly between sender and transporter and we charge no fee.

4. We do not vet transporters

Transporter currently serves civilian, non-commercial moves. We do not check credentials, licensing, insurance, or driving history, and we make no representation that any transporter is qualified, insured, or fit to carry your goods. Anything a transporter says about themselves is their own claim, not ours.

Deciding who to trust with your property is your decision. What you see on a bid — name, rate, rating, message history — is there to help you make it, and is not an endorsement, a check, or a guarantee by us.

5. Your responsibilities

You agree to provide accurate information, comply with applicable law (including highway, ferry, and dangerous-goods rules), and not misuse the platform for fraud, double-brokering without disclosure, or other unlawful activity.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Transporter and its operators are not liable for lost or damaged freight, delayed delivery, payment disputes between users, inaccurate user-posted information, or indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Our total liability arising from use of the platform is limited to the fees (if any) you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

7. Disputes

Disputes between senders and transporters should first be resolved between those parties. Platform dispute tools, if available, are optional facilitation only and do not create an arbitration obligation or insurance claim process on our part.

8. Changes

We may update these Terms. Continued use after posting changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
